General Information

A fun toy robot that you can build on a Carvey and even customize in Easel. Our design features rotating and reversible eyeballs to create lots of funny expressions and three removable “puzzle gears”. The robot leans back at a slight angle to keep the parts in place. No batteries required!

1

Cut the main body part

Cut the main body part from Purple MDF using this Easel file

2

Cut the first set of parts

Using this Easel file, cut the treads, eye bezel, and medium-sized gear. There’s an extra gear in the file in case you need it.

3

Cut the second set of parts

Using this Easel file cut the eyes and small gear parts.

4

Cut the final set of parts

Now, cut the wheel and large gear parts using this Easel file

5

Assemble the 'Bot

Assemble the treads to the body using a little bit of wood glue. The parts should fit right together.

Attach the gray eye bezel with a little bit of wood glue. This part is not meant to be removable.

The rest of the parts are meant to be removable, so just clean them up a little and put them on once the treads have dried.

Have fun!

Any reason this wouldn't work on an X-carve?

Yes, it would definitely work on an X-carve - you could even make a bigger one!

Great - perhaps a couple more newcomer questions? 1) what is the easiest way to scale up all easel plans consistently? 2) What bit would you recommend?
Michael Trader
Volume Studios
Scale drawings in the "shape" tab in the floating cut/shape toolbar. For the "Size" option, lock the proportions and specify a new dimension to scale. Calculate the percentage that you're scaling it up consistently for all of the parts. The bit used is a 1/16" fishtail.

Feel free to ask more questions. Sorry for the short answer above - it only allows 300 characters per post. Thanks!

@Torben all of the files are available on Easel, but they have to be accessed through the links in the individual steps. Just click on those and you should be good to go. Thanks!
